Third album in just over five years for Nathan, a band coming from the Ligurian city of Savona led by keyboard player Piergiorgio Abba and singer Bruno Lugaro, who wrote all the music and lyrics.

Musically, “Uomini di Sabbia” (Sand-made Men) moves on the path already undertaken with the group’s debut “Nebulosa” (2016) and the following “Era” (2018), with energetic guitars, Genesis-ish atmospheres and odd-signature songs, structured and complex yet catchy at the same time, thanks to a considerable attention to production and sounds that lead to a fluent and flawless listening experience.

“Uomini di Sabbia” is not a classic ‘concept album’, but all its songs are bound by a common theme: the human being, his weaknesses and inability to contrast abuses – hence the sand metaphor – but also the courage and the spirit of adventure that make man capable of rebelling against injustices; in short, a honest hard-prog rock interpretation of these difficult times, that ends with the long suite “Egos”, specifically themed on ‘Big Brother’ and utopic freedom.

Terzo album in poco più di cinque anni per i Nathan, formazione proveniente dalla città ligure di Savona capitanata dal duo Piergiorgio Abba / Bruno Lugaro, rispettivamente tastierista e cantante, autori di tutte le musiche e i testi.

Musicalmente “Uomini di sabbia” riprende il percorso già intrapreso con il debutto “Nebulosa” (2016) e il successivo “Era” (2018), con chitarre energiche, atmosfere ‘genesisiane’ e composizioni costellate di tempi dispari; i brani sono ancora più complessi ma anche immediati al tempo stesso, grazie a una notevole attenzione alla produzione e ai suoni che rende l’ascolto scorrevole e privo di punti deboli.

“Uomini di sabbia” non è un ‘concept album’ nel senso classico del termine, ma tutti i brani sono uniti da un tema comune: l’individuo, le sue debolezze e incapacità di opporsi ai soprusi – da cui la metafora della sabbia – ma anche il coraggio e lo spirito d’avventura che rendono l’uomo capace di ribellarsi alle ingiustizie; in sintesi, un’onesta rilettura di questi tempi difficili in chiave hard-prog rock, suggellata dalla lunga suite conclusiva “Egos”, incentrata sul tema del Grande Fratello e della libertà come utopia.

The new live EP by Ryan W. Stevenson's project reminded me, that this debut album must have been gone down the wishlist... If instrumental Canterbury stuff is your thing, this should be a no-brainer.
